It may be scary to think about starting your first job. New people (bosses, co-workers, customers), new surroundings and unknown outcomes (how will you like it? how long will your first position last?) Nevermind, there are so many reasons to jump in, apply and start your first job! The earlier you start working, the more quickly you’ll learn what you like and what you don’t like. What jobs lean into your strengths. You’ll start earning money, which you can spend on food, housing, healthcare and transportation, saving up for a car and having fun.

Additionally, one study showed that workers who started in their teens earn 15% more in their late twenties. The Bureau of Labor Statistics points out that your chances of being employed at 25 are 25% higher if you worked as a teen. Career

Working is a primary factor to living a good life. The earlier that you work, the more of a resume you build up for future jobs. Working provides you opportunities in the future.

Depending on the job, working can also help to increase your social circle, making new friends and acquaintances. With the money you earn from work, you can afford the food you want to eat, have more of a choice on where you want to live and help build the foundation of starting a family one day.

While there are many aspects to building a good life, including good mental health, access to adequate food and housing and education, working helps provide the stability to be able to attain all of these things.
